Movie Reviews for Attack the Block

Joe Cornish's Attack the Block has received some rave movie reviews at this year's SXSW Film Festival. This energetic action/sci-fi/horror combo has been the recipient of compliments like "drop-dead awesome", and comparisons to a mash-up of cult classics such as Critters, The Warriors, The Goonies, The Sandlot, Assault on Precinct 13, and The People Under the Stairs. The plot is brilliant in its simplicity: a group of young inner-city thugs are the only line of defense when their block is invaded by creepy and ravenous alien monsters.

The leader of the gang rallies his colorful sidekicks into rescuing a few locals, locating hiding spots, and kicking alien butt. While this may sound like a basic and generic storyline, the way it's executed makes it into one of the slickest, quickest, and surprisingly fun new movies in a long time. The cast are all new and unknown actors whose performances are exceptional across the board.
