Games Studio Makes Film News

The popular video game maker Ubisoft is making film news with plans to take some of its game titles to the big screen. However, contrary to some headlines in the blogosphere, Ubisoft says it is not planning to launch a movie studio. It does want to get into the movie business, though, and has hired Jean-Julien Baronnet who is the former CEO of a French movie studio to oversee their efforts.
He will oversee the newly created Ubisoft Motion Pictures, which will be a boutique division within the French game company that will seek Hollywood studio partners to bring its popular game franchises to the big screen. Among the games that may one day be films are Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Rayman Raving Rabbids. The project is still in the early stages, according to Ubisoft, and it is likely that the company will proceed slowly and be highly selective about which studio partners they choose.
